As our population ages, the senior movie market reflects the nation’s appetite for mature stories and seasoned actors.  AARP Magazine released “The 12th Annual Best Movies for Grownups Awards” and not surprisingly the British hit, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” tops the list as Best Movie for Grownups.  Other top movies highlighted for senior adults  were “Lincoln”, “Les Miserables”, “Hitchcock”, and “The Sessions”.

Not only are movie titles reflecting a move toward capturing the senior movie market, but mature actors and actresses are highlighted in key roles.  AARP’s Best Actress in the 50+ Category is Dame Judi Dench for her performance on “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”.  This year Dench shines again in the James Bond movie “Skyfall” and the newly released “Quartet”, a stellar British movie about retired classical musicians.

Best Actor in the 50+ Category is Denzel Washington for his performance in “Flight”, a thriller set in the clouds.

Best Supporting Actor 50+ is John Goodman in “Flight” and Tom Cruise is noted for on-target performance in “Rock of Ages”.  Robert DeNiro is recognized for his role in “Silver Linings Playbook” and Tommy Lee Jones carries the story in “Lincoln” while Steven Spielberg is noted for his keen direction of the movie.

The Senior Movie Market Highlights Beloved Entertainers

Helen Mirren and Anthony Hopkins set the stage for Best Grownup Love Story while “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”, “Hope Springs” and “Quartet” all feature loving and poignant glimpses of “Grownup Love” and we love that they do!

But what we love the most is that a highlight of this past year’s movies includes names of performers that we actually recognize!  Take in a flick and enjoy the time you spend with your aging parent or other loved one.
