It’s a new year and time for new year’s resolutions! However, we know that family caregivers have may have too much on their plate in order to resolve to tackle the standards such as weight loss, financial management, or better time management.
We hope you’ll take a moment to reflect upon resolutions that may help you cope with the stresses of caring for aging parents. We hope you’ll take a moment and focus on resolutions that center around your needs.
Give Thanks and Maintain a Gratitude List.
Take a moment each morning to reflect on the things that you are grateful for in your life.
Get More Sleep and Exercise.
Exercise and rest are proven stress busters!
Keep snack-size packs of fruit, nuts and vegetables handy; can the candy!
Take a moment to reflect on your spiritual needs and give thanks for your blessings.
Laugh Often; Laugh Loud.
A good belly laugh releases endorphins and helps us feel better; inside and out.
Be honest with yourself and your support team about your needs as a caregiver.
We know that caregiving is a 24-hour a day/ 365-day a year job and we know that it’s a challenge to carve out time for yourself. However, we hope that you’ll focus on these resolutions so that you and your aging parent can benefit from you being your best!
