Older Americans Month

May is Older Americans Month and that means plenty of play time for seniors in Houston.  Local organizations such as neighborhood YMCAs, retirement communities, senior centers, hospitals and wellness centers, and houses of worship will be hosting various events to celebrate Older Americans Month and encourage mobility.

The theme for 2012 is “Never Too Old to Play”!  Joining friends, family and neighbors at local senior events is a great way to celebrate spring.  Communities are hosting walks, special exercise events, health and wellness checks, lecture series and other events to focus on a healthful and active lifestyle for seniors.

Wednesday, May 30 is National Health and Fitness Day where more than 100,000 seniors are expected to join 1000 organizations in a daylong celebration of “Get Moving…Start Improving”.

So….what are you waiting for?   You’re “Never Too Old to Play” and and make some new friends.  Contact your local senior center of check out Houston’s Area Agency on Aging for something happening in your neighborhood.
