Houston Families Have Resources for Arthritis Medical Treatment

July 14, 2011

Seniors live and suffer with arthritis pain daily.  Family caregivers can help their seniors seek the professional health care they need for arthritis treatment with the information provided in this video segment.

Arthritis Treatment Options Vary From Topical Treatments to Surgery

Heat and cold treatments.  These applications on muscles and joints provide short-term relief from joint and muscle pain.

NSAIDs.  Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs provide immediate relief and are typically available as an over-the-counter medication.

Corticosteriods.  Typically, this treatment approach is designed to supress the immune systems for arthritis forms that attack the autoimmune systems.

Lifestyle changes.  A better diet and carefully-planned exercise regimen can  help lessen pain while increasing strength and range of motion.  Also, rest and relaxation are recommended.

Surgical intervention.  Sometimes, an injection of man made joint fluid will ease joint pain or surgery may be recommended to rebuild or replace arthritic joints.

Alternative therapies.   Magnets, aromatherapy, acupuncture, meditation and herbal remedies are alternative therapies that some patient pursue.
