Two great ways to celebrate Older Americans Month!
Enter a bowling tournament! Senior centers, senior communities and local organizations such as your neighborhood YMCA are staging Wii interactive bowling tournaments throughout the month of May. High scores will be posted on www.olderamericansmonth.org and national results will be charted throughout the month.
Make a video! This intergenerational video challenge is a contest designed to share a perspective on how older Americans strengthen their community connection. Seniors have a lifetime of on-the-job training where their life’s travels bring great experiences to the communities they live in through work experience, volunteerism, mentoring, or simply being an active participant in their neighborhoods. The video team must have at least one member over the age of 60 and one member under the age of 60. For more detail, visit www.olderamericansmonth.org. But hurry, the deadline for submission is May 2, 2011!
A few weeks ago we brought you information about the Veteran’s History Project, an oral history project sponsored by the Library of Congress. Wouldn’t it be great if aspiring video producers could find a way to blend these two projects together?
Please share your community’s plans to celebrate Older Americans Month!
