The Changing Face of America

The Changing Face of Aging

By now you’ve heard the news that the oldest of the Boomer Generation is turning 65 in 2011 – at a rate of almost 10,000 Baby Boomers celebrating their milestone birthday each day — for the next 19 YEARS!

And, in typical Boomer fashion — this milestone is not passing quietly —- it’s being blasted from the front pages, talk shows are dedicating whole episodes, and analysts are analyzing and theorizing by the squads!

What does that milestone in the largest generation mean to America?  This huge bulge of record-setting and trend-making Boomers has driven life-changing events for decades.

  • The profile of America’s education system changed dramatically in response to Boomers entering school systems in waves.
  • America’s workforce changed the profile of the corporate world when Boomers required more flexibility and more workplace options.
  • The country’s housing market shifted radically as Boomers left rural America behind.

And the list goes on…

As one of the youngest members of the Boomer Generation, I have watched in awe as fellow Boomers have embraced and challenged their senior years head on.   I compare my sister’s “in-your-face” life experience to my grandparents’ traditional golden retirement years and  I realize that the Boomers are tackling this new chapter with trademark gusto as the roar of “Bring It On!” echoes from their RV’s, motorcycle clubs, and trekking groups.

There’s no doubt about it, changes are coming!  Take a moment and reflect on what this year means to you and the changes that you see in your future.  And, I invite you to join a discussion group,  How Will You Live? ,  where you can join in on a discussion that focuses on how Boomers, like you and me, will change the face of aging — forever.
