Ahhhh…a cold, dark blustery afternoon. Time to heat up a cup of cocoa and crawl under the quilts for a long winter’s nap…..NOT!
Doctors and physical therapists tell our senior parents that moving and staying active is the key to their independent lifestyles. And, following doctor’s advice to stay active isn’t too hard when the local golf club is in full swing or the favorite backyard rose garden is in full bloom.
But what can we do to help mom and dad stay active and engaged during these cold winter months?
Many local organizations sponsor senior-friendly activities that help with balance issues and open doors for great things! Check out your Houston YMCAs and neighborhood exercise venues such as Curves for information on programs such as SilverSneakers and Zumba.
Also, a great website called “Get Mom Moving” offers plenty of activities for the mind, body and soul. A calendar and daily activity journal are available for download from this site, along with several other resources.
What better way to begin 2011 than by having a plan in place for every generation of your entire family!
